  • Yes, and you’ll be fine. At the start expect to feel as if you don’t know everything, there will be some extra introductory tasks to help you at the start and pretty soon you will be flying.

  • There are three main differences

    One difference is that A Level Drama and Theatre focuses on acting, directing and designing for theatre through plays and the BTEC course focuses on performing with all three disciplines of acting, singing and dance mainly through musical theatre.

    Another difference is that BTEC is a ‘practical first to understand the theory’ course, A Level Drama and Theatre is a ‘theory first, practical second’ course but both are practical.

    The third difference is that the BTEC Performing Arts assessment is evenly distributed over the course with the first assignment due in the first term of teaching and A Level Drama and Theatre has the three assessment points in the second year of the course.

    The fourth difference is that there are three flexible pathways for the BTEC Performing Arts course. At Walton HIgh you can choose the extended diploma to make it a full time college course equivalent to three A Levels, or choose the two A Level equivalent of a Diploma course or you could choose the extended certificate course making it equivalent to one A Level.

    There are many similarities between the courses; both subjects lead to drama and dance school or performance based university courses, both subjects are practical subjects and both subjects have many professional level performance opportunities each year, setting up apart from other Performing Arts or Drama schools.

  • Your nervousness can be managed so that eventually you can control it and not let the nervousness control you. Small steps help, simple CBT helps, changing your reasons for performing away from you towards a collective purpose changes the power the feeling of being nervous has over this. In this is course we talk about and face these fears. It is OK and we will work with you to help.

  • Listen to and watch musicals. Set a regular training programme for singing, movement and acting. Follow up class work on composers, lyricists, performers and producers.
