The philosophy department deliver the A Level course provided by the Pearson Edexcel Exam board, whom have title this qualification ‘Religious Studies’. As you can see the course is made up of three components which includes a mixture of philosophical and ethical issues and questions, these are underpinned by reference to religion beliefs and non-religious views, as well as the critical study of the New Testament.

Not at all. There are many students who study this course because they are interested in the questions it asks and the skills it enables you to develop.

No. You can take this course as long as you have a grade 5 in English. You need a strong written ability to succeed in the exams, but you do not need prior knowledge of the course content.

New Testament studies takes a critical look at the New Testament of the Bible from within Christianity. It considers the historical and political context of the times, the person of Jesus including critical analysis of his claim to be the Messiah, as well as ways to interpret the scriptures within the New Testament. This part of the course will challenge you not to take things at face value and to analyse and evaluate the views that you are presented with.
