The Extended Certificate, Diploma and Extended Diploma are equivalent to one, two or three A Levels respectively. Each course covers a broad range of sports topics with the Extended Certificate being the least specialised course. This course is ideal for someone who wants to progress into higher education but would also like to study other A Level/vocational courses. The Diploma and Extended Diploma courses focus on more units and students will study a larger variety of sporting topics. The Diploma and Extended Diploma courses are perfect for students who wish to pursue a career in sport after Post 16.

Depending on which course you choose (Extended Certificate, Diploma, or Extended Diploma) will depend on the amount of practical sport you do. Unit 18 is a practical sport unit focusing on performance in an individual sport and team sport. You will also cover sports coaching (Unit 2) where students will take part in several practical based sessions delivered by their peers. In all lessons, teachers will endeavor to make lessons as hands on and applied as possible.

Yes - the course has externally assessed exams over the two years of study. Extended Certificate students will complete two exams (Unit 1 - Body systems and the effects of physical activity and Unit 3 - Sports organisation and development). Diploma students will complete the two exams previously mentioned and a third exam (Unit 4 – Working safely in sport, exercise, health, and leisure) and Extended Diploma students will complete the three exams previously mentioned and a fourth exam (Unit 21 - Business in sport).

This course focuses on your progression into a vast array of sporting sectors (coaching, sports science ,sports management, sports nutrition). The course carries the equivalent UCAS points to A Levels, therefore achieving a Distinction* on this course is equivalent to achieving an A* at A level. This qualification can be used alongside other qualifications to achieve acceptance to higher education.
